"Wii Transform"

Nintendo Wii Commercial I made around '05/'06 (for fun... then turned in for class) "Wii Transform" ENJOY! and feel free to comment :) (Music -- Linnear -- Drunken Business Man) Copy write Derek Ptacnik 2005 - 2007 (C) The original animation was done around late summer '05... I started doing this just for fun. It sat aside for almost 7 months before the final pics of the Wii were released... and I decided to go ahead and finish it up. I almost never finished because around that time a beautiful SONY transformation ad was done by a company called MAKE. I was a little discouraged but decided to finish it up anyway... besides I needed it for my portfolio class haha Most of the models and ani was originally meant to be an animatic that I turned in to my first of three portfolio classes. This is why you see some frames with... uhhh.. "crap" floating around and why the SNES "splits" rather than doing a full transform. haha. My last few quarters in school were pretty hectic so I never got around to polishing up the lighting/models/textures and such But for a student project I'm still fairly happy with the result. And the response so far has been radtastic. I should have shown it sooner I guess :) NOTE: A hand-held system spot and/or a controller specific animation could be on the way ;) time will tell. And it will def look ALOT better than this. EDIT: for some reason the audio is off (from the upload) so you can go to www.ptacnik.com/ptacnik_wii.mp4 to view it with proper audio. Russell Means Speaking at the Transform Columbus Day Rally

Russell Means was just one of many speakers at the Four Directions/Transform Columbus Day Rally in Denver, CO. This is the first seven minutes of his eight-minute speech. The march evolved into a protest of the Columbus Day Parade which began 100 years ago in Denver. Protesters and organizers called for an end to the holiday that celebrates a man who brought genocide to the native peoples of the Americas along with the Trans-Atlantic African slave trade. Means, along with 82 others were later arrested for peaceful civil disobedience by the Denver Police Department. Instances of police brutality were witnessed and recorded by many on-lookers. Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry

FTICR-MS: Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. An MS configuration that detects signals on metal plates from electrical currents produced by ion oscillations. The hallmark of FT-MS is its high resolution; 1-2 ppm mass accuracy or lower can be achieved. A drawback is the long cycle time required for acquisition of MS and particularly MS/MS spectra. Fourier transform analysis consists of determining the ion cyclotron resonances (which refers to the number of orbits completed/sec), not by scanning slowly through the spectrum as a function of frequency, but by recording the oscillating charge induced in a detector plate by orbiting ions as they approach and recede from that plate. FT of that time-domain data then yields ALL of the cyclotron frequencies at once, for a time saving by a factor of ~10,000. The FTICR-MS consists of an ion source, some ion optics to transfer the ions into the magnetic field, and the Ion Cyclotron Resonance (ICR) cell or Penning trap. After ion's are trapped in the ICR cell, they are excited by a resonant excitation pulse into a coherent orbit. The excitation amplifier is then turned off and the ions continue to orbit at their final radius. Ions moving near electrodes cause an image charge to form on these electrodes to balance the ions' electric field. In the case of a circular orbit, this image charge will oscillate at the ion's resonant frequency, and can be detected by a sensitive preamplifier circuit, digitized, and stored in computer memory. http://www.cprmap.com/proteomic_technologies/mass_spectrometry/1271.html

Only a few minutes before his tech session during Microsoft Tech-Ed EMEA 2008 Edmund Preiss from the Intel Software & Services Group faced up to our three challenging questions: 1. What is your tech session all about? 2. Which tools help to multi-thread serial code? 3. How does Intel Parallel Studio help Windows developers? So, his answer to question number one is simple and surprising at the same time: turning a serial programmed piece of software into a powerful multi-threaded, multi-core enabled application is quite easily, if you use the right tools, which he will talk about during his presentation. One of the software tools for developers he will strive is the Intel Thread Checker, which is able to identify data races. In a worst case scenario these can lead to blue screens. Edmund will show the use of a second tool as well, the Intel Thread Profiler, which identifies annoying synchronization overhead in multi-threaded program codes. Another aspect regarding parallel programmed applications is the false sharing which has to do with the L2 cache and can cause extended computing time. In these cases the VTune Performance Analyzer helps software developers to find the piece of source code which causes the false sharing problem. Edmund found an interesting comparison for answer number two: In the past of programming people started to turn from assembler to high-level programming languages like Fortran or C Intel now offers a similar approach when you want to transfer single threaded to multi-threaded code: using programming models on a higher abstract level. A good example for this are the Intel Threading Building Blocks which help software developers to parallelize their source code by transforming tasks into threads, which in turn can be handled properly by the integrated Scheduler.
